Principal's update 25 November 2022

Published on 25/11/22

Dear Parents and Carers,

Yesterday evening, we had the pleasure of welcoming back our outgoing Y11 students to celebrate their achievements at our presentation evening. It was wonderful to see them all again and here about their ongoing studies since leaving HVC. A buffet for students, their families, plus our invited guests was followed by collection of certificates and presentation of awards. Thank you to all those who attended this wonderful celebration.

What’s going on in school?

  • As a school, we raised a fantastic £450.93 for Children in Need last Friday. Well done to all involved.

  • Charlotte Y9 finished her orienteering season not only as Northern Champion, but also as British Schools Champion! She competed against almost 500 young people at an event at Graves Park in Sheffield last Sunday. Amazing!!
  • On Tuesday, students from all year groups travelled to Buxton to take part in a cross country event with great success! 4 students in Y7 qualified, along with 9 students in the Y8 & 9 category and 11 students in the Y10 & 11 category. Well done to all who took part!

  • Y11 boys played rugby against a very strong team from Westborne School on Thursday afternoon. For many of the boys, this was their first rugby match. They played extremely well and dominated the first half, but unfortunately conceded a few tries in the second half. The final score was HVC 26: Westborne 32.

Y9 Subject Evening – 4.30 – 7.00pm, Thursday 1 December 2022

Thank you to those parents who have contacted us regarding appointments for the Y9 subject evening. We are aware that some of you are struggling to make bookings with certain teachers, due to availability of slots. We are working on a solution and will contact you as soon as possible.

Y11 Subject evening - 4.30 - 7.00 pm, Thursday 8 December 2022

The Year 11 subject evening will take place on Thursday 8 December, 4.30 - 7.00pm. This will take place in school and is an opportunity to talk to teachers about progress, attainment and any other issues.
Students will also be given their first progress of the report on this date which will show their 'most likely outcome' and target grade for every subject.  This will also be available to parents on the Cloud School app. The 'most likely outcome' (MLO) grade will be based on a variety of assessments, ATL and the capacity for the students to improve before the summer and will not be passed to KS5 providers or employers until we have worked together to quality assure the grades on an individual student basis.

Lost property

There are a number of items left in lost property from before October half term. If your young person has lost anything, please ask them to come to Reception and enquire. Due to limited storage, all items left in lost property that were handed in prior to October half term will be donated to Charity over Christmas.
