Principal's update 13 October 2023
Published on 13/10/23
Dear Parents and Carers
Our first LEAD day of this academic year was a great success, with students in all year groups engaged in learning. Year 7 students enjoyed their trip to Castleton and spent time at Peveril Castle, Castleton Church and the Visitor Centre, whilst Year 8 students travelled by coach to the Science and Industry Museum in Manchester. In preparation for their Independent Learning Project on International cuisine, they also visited a Teppanyaki restaurant and watched how dishes are made there. Within school, Years 9, 10 and 11 took part in interesting and though provoking sessions on a variety of topics from our PSHE curriculum.
We are looking forward to welcoming parents and carers of Y7 students into school on Monday afternoon for our Information Evening. If you have not already done so, we would be grateful if you could complete the attendance form that was emailed to you last week. Thank you.
As the weather gets colder, we would recommend that students bring coats to school with them, as break times will be spent outside if the weather is fine.
What’s going on in school:
- What’s going on in music: Y7 have been learning note values and how to apply this learning through playing the drum kit. Y8 have been completing their band assessments and some classes have started a music production project. Y9 have been working hard on their rock music band assessment and are also learning key music vocabulary to complement their learning. Y10 have been continuing work on their ensemble performances as well as developing their music theory and listening skills. Y11 have been completing their 1st composition as part of their coursework and will start their 2nd composition next week. There has been a variety of pieces written, including songs, film and gaming music as well as variations upon a ground bass.
- Assemblies this week have been delivered by Mr Jenkinson, Head of Key Stage 4, on the topic of Resilience, focusing on mental health and acknowledging World Mental Health Day.
- The Young Hope Leaders group is being launched for students in Y7 and Y8. Throughout the year we will be raising awareness and fundraising for different charitable causes. If you are interested in helping to make a difference in the world and to other people's lives, come and join us. See Ms. Reynolds for more information.
