Principal's update 17 May 2024
Published on 17/05/24
Dear Parents and Carers
Thank you to parents and carers who attended the Y7 Subject Evening on Wednesday this week. It was lovely to chat to some of you. We hope you found the evening useful. Information regarding KS3 Assessments has now been added to our website for all students in years 7-9 and their parents/carers : www.hopevalley.chorustrust.org/exams
The first full week of GCSE exams is nearly over for Y11 students, and our young people have done exceptionally well with these challenges. We would like to remind you again that all of our Year 11s need to be in full uniform and following our school rules. We will shortly be sharing information about their last full day in school and want to make sure that all our young people have the opportunity to take part.
In acknowledgement of Mental Health Awareness week, Mr Jenkinson, our Senior Mental Health Lead in school, has delivered assemblies focusing on this topic to years 7-10. Next week, we will be sharing a mental health survey with students in Y7-10 via ClassCharts. The survey is anonymous, and it is not compulsory.
What’s going on in school:
- Y10 Students are being given the opportunity to apply to be Design Mentors within our Design Faculty. Students should speak to Miss Nicklin for more information.
- Y11 students have been making the most of their lunchtimes to continue their revision, supervised by Mr Rasool.
- Y7 music students competed in an interactive ukulele labelling quiz to find which team could guess the most correctly in one minute!
Bus Passes
In order to travel on school buses, students need to have either a bus pass or money to pay for their journey. We have a number of young people who are not carrying their bus pass with them. Please ensure that your young person either has a bus pass or money for their journey.
Photo permissions
An email has been sent to all primary carers this week with TWO short forms regarding permissions for the use of photographs within and outside of school. Please can you ensure that BOTH forms are completed before 24 May – it should take less than a minute to complete the forms. Thank you.
Alternatively, you can use the Arbor App to update your details. If you need any assistance, please contact enquiries@hopevalley.chorustrust.org
Denim donations needed!
Our Textiles department are in need of more denim material for their supplies. Any donations can either be handed in at reception or given to Miss Nicklin.
Music & Mayhem – Saturday 29 June
Our PTFA are looking forward to their next event - Music and Mayhem on Saturday 29 June from 11am until 4pm. There will be music performances, races and fete styles games for everyone to join in. Fingers crossed that we have another sunny day like last year! There will be a lunchtime BBQ, plus cake stall and ice creams and refreshments available to purchase all day.
We will be sending out a request closer to the time for cake donations but would love to hear from anyone who would be able to help on the day with serving refreshments, on the stalls and marshalling. Also, we would be grateful if anyone could let us borrow freestanding gazebos for the event. Please get in touch via email PTFAhv@hopevalley.chorustrust.org. Thank you.
Job Vacancies
We are currently recruiting for a Teaching Assistant Level 3 (Temporary). Please see our website for more information about this vacancy: Vacancies - Hope Valley College (chorustrust.org)
Holiday courses at Whitehall
Over the holidays White Hall will be running holiday courses for ages 6 to 18 and family days. Within this, we will be running days specifically for SEND children and young people and their families. This is a great opportunity for families to come together and enjoy quality time in the outdoors.
