Hope Valley students celebrate GCSE results

The 99 Hope Valley Year 11 students achieved some excellent results, of which they should be proud. The students have worked hard to achieve and the happy faces at the school this morning were evidence of their success.

Hope Valley College is known locally for its wonderful musical performances and students’ musical talents are clear as nearly a quarter of all students studied GCSE music, with 13% of those achieving the highest grades (9-7). Other subjects showing excellent performances include geography (24% grades 9-7), art and design (14% grades 9-7), hospitality and catering (55% graded distinction*-merit) and engineering (50% graded distinction*-merit).

Once again, results show that good attendance at school is a key factor in exam success as students with 90% or more attendance at school achieved consistently higher grades than those with lower levels of attendance. The school’s improving results also show that they are successfully ‘closing the disadvantage gap’.

Newly appointed Headteacher of Hope Valley College, Debbie Petts, said: "I am so proud of our Year 11 students. They are an amazing group of young people, who have worked incredibly hard to achieve their results. I’d like to thank our Year 11 students for bringing such energy and enthusiasm to the Hope Valley community; they have been wonderful role models for our younger students.

"My thanks also go to their families and our staff, under the leadership of Gaynor Jones, who have supported them throughout their time at Hope Valley. We are a small school with high expectations and our class of 2024 are a credit to our community. Congratulations to them all. We wish them the best of luck, whether they are headed to sixth form, college or into an apprenticeship."
