Headteacher's update 13 December 2024

Published on 13/12/24

Dear Parents and Carers

It has been the most amazing week in school with so many activities and opportunities for student this week. On Tuesday we supported the local Hope Seniors Christmas Lunch with servers from Y9 and our Y7 choir to provide a festive musical accompaniment. Post 16 students took advantage of a Christmas shopping opportunity on their annual visit to Meadowhall to embed the maths curriculum. On Wednesday nearly 100 students took part in a theatre visit to see Wicked in Manchester, while back at school we said a final farewell to our class of 2024 with the presentation evening. The main speech was delivered by Mrs Jones who praised the students for their hard work and handed out several awards to recognise individual achievement. And then on Thursday we had our annual Christmas Carol Service at St Peter's Church in Hope, with some wonderful songs provided by our very talented Y7 choir. I would like to thank all of the staff and parents/carers who have supported these activities this week.

Next week we have our main Christmas event - The Festive Showcase - which will be an evening of truly festive entertainment. We then have our Christmas dinner on Wednesday and celebration assemblies on Friday. For the majority of next week staff will continue to teach lessons in line with the curriculum so every learning opportunity counts.

Attendance

It will come as no surprise that we continue to share information about attendance. We are starting to see this fall and while we are aware that there are several illnesses doing the rounds, we would also like to remind our young people of the prize draw for attendance in the last 2 weeks of December. And a final reminder that the single biggest impact on student attainment and progress is the time they spend in school.

Friday 20 December is the last day of term. Students are welcome to wear Christmas jumpers and non-uniform to school on this day. We look forward to welcoming all students back to school on Monday 6 January 2025.

What’s going on in school:

  • Well done to Junior in Y7, who has had great success in swimming! Junior swims with Stockport Metro Swimming club and trains 5 times a week. He also competes in galas across the country and recently gained several personal best times, which made him eligible for entry in the county championship for 7 different races, including 400m freestyle and 100m backstroke. Last weekend he gained 5 further personal best times! On Sunday he will be representing his club in the regional final in Blackpool.
  • This week we took 90 students who study Music/Drama to see the award-winning production of Wicked in Manchester. The students got to experience this West-end production and had follow up learning in their lessons this week. A truly wonderful experience for all.

  • Year 7 took part in our interhouse table tennis tournament this week – Mam Tor were the winners!
  • The English team are pleased to see how much our younger students have been reading since September. We recommend an hour per week of reading at home as part of the Accelerated Reader with regular quizzes taken during their library lessons so we can track their progress. Don't forget to look on the enrichment learning for recommended reads which support the topics studied in their English lessons.

Festive Showcase

There are a few tickets left for our Festive Showcase on Tuesday 17th December at 6pm. Tickets can be purchased via ParentPay.

If your young person is taking part in the Festive Showcase, then we need you to complete an online consent form. Without this, they will not be able to take part. If you have not already done so, please complete this by 12 noon on Monday 16 December. Thank you.

Students involved in the Showcase should stay in school at 3.30pm on Tuesday and go to the hall. They will then eat their packed tea (must be brought with them – food will not be available in the canteen and students will not be permitted to go to the local shop), before getting ready for the show and warming up.

Thank you for reading our communication. Here are some helpful email addresses, should you need to contact us:

Kind regards
