Principal's update 3 February 2023

Published on 03/02/23

Dear Parents and Carers

Thank you for your cooperation on Wednesday, whilst school was closed to students during the strike action. Further dates for strike action are scheduled and we will communicate with you regarding any planned school closures nearer the time. I hope students were able to access Remote Learning via the school website and ClassCharts.

This week, our assemblies have focused on standards and how we can all contribute to making school a better place for everyone by looking after our school environment and respecting each other.

Our postponed LEAD (Learning, Enrichment & Development) Day will be rescheduled for Thursday 2nd March. Further details will be sent out to parents and carers nearer the time.

What’s going on in school:

  • Students from Y10 and Y11 from both HVC and Silverdale took a joint residential trip to Conway in Wales last weekend. They met famous artists and took part in a range of workshops, letting their creative juices flow to produce some beautiful work inspired by Royalty. A special thanks goes to the artists, the Conway centre for hosting us and the Cavendish Art Society for part funding the trip. Everyone had an amazing time!

  • Last Saturday, some of our Y10 Duke of Edinburgh students came into school to complete their First Aid Training. Thank you to Mr Fitton for facilitating this.
  • After a break of many years, HaVoC is back!  The award-winning school newspaper produced by and for students, which first rolled off the press in 1989, will be re-launched next Wednesday, February 8th, in a shiny new 21st century e-format. Students will be able to access HaVoC using the QR code that will be posted around school.

Y11 mock exams

Y11 students will be starting their mock exams next Friday 3rd February with the Art exam with the rest following week commencing Monday 6th February.  The timetable can be found on our website here - Exams - Hope Valley College (hopevalley-chorustrust.org).  Students will be handed their statement of entry next week which will tell them when and where their exams will be.

Y9 Options Forms

The last in our series of Options Assemblies for Y9 students will be held next week. We will then send out the Options Forms to all students.

Rehearsals for School of Rock

Next week’s rehearsal schedule for School of Rock can be found in the School of Rock folder in Teams. It is essential all students attend the correct day/time as specified.
