Principal's update 10 February 2023

Published on 10/02/23

Dear Parents and Carers

Students break up for half-term on Thursday 16th February, as Friday 17th is an INSET day and school is closed to students. We look forward to welcoming students back to school on Monday 27th February.

Our Student Council have decided that they would like to raise money to help following the recent earthquake in Turkey & Syria. We will therefore be holding a non-uniform day on Thursday 16th February with all proceeds going towards this cause. Donations can be made via ParentPay. Thank you in advance for your contributions.

There has been an increase in the number of parents/carers parking on the pavement outside school or using the Sports Club car park whilst waiting to collect students at the end of the day. In the interests of safety for all, please only use the school car park whilst waiting to collect students at the end of the school day.

What’s going on in school:

  • Students have been enjoying their fitness and gymnastics classes in PE this term!

If this causes any issues, please email Miss Starbuck or Mrs Machan. The final date to order School of Rock hoodies is the 23rd of February, make sure to get yours quick so you don't miss out!

PTFA News - Hope Valley Adventure Film Festival is back for 2023

Join us on the 25th March for a full day of films and adventurous activities for all the family! The event itself will run from 10am until 9.30pm - details and tickets will be released in the coming weeks so watch this space. There will be food, drink and activities as well as films.

In the run-up to #HVAFF, we're looking to build a team of volunteers to help us throughout the day. We've broken it down into manageable chunks and to thank you for your time, any volunteers will be permitted to enter the event free of charge. We're really keen to get the team together as soon as possible, so please contact us by email  PTFAhv@hopevalley.chorustrust.org  with your name, number and the best time to contact you.

Chat site

We have been made aware of a chat site called Omegle, which pairs you up with strangers online to chat either by text or video. There are obvious concerns linked to this and we ask you to be vigilant if you think your young person may be using this site. We have attached a document with more information.

Outdoor Activities Consent Form

Parents and Carers of students in Y9 and Y10 should have received an email regarding consent for students taking part in outdoor activities. Thank you to those who have already completed this. The link has been re-sent this week – if you haven’t already completed this, please could we ask you to do so as soon as possible. Thank you.

Missing Football Team Shirts

A few of our green and black school football team shirts seem to have been accidentally taken home after matches and not returned. We would be grateful if you could check if you have any at home and return them to school.

Child Employment

Attached is some useful information to help parents and carers make an informed decision about any work their young person may want to undertake.

Lost Property

We have an ever-increasing amount of lost property in reception – particularly winter coats. If your young person has lost something, please ask them to check at reception.
