Headteacher's update 22 November 2024
Published on 22/11/24
Dear Parents and Carers
Thank you for your support and understanding this week in what have proved to be difficult weather conditions. The position of the headteacher is challenging in these moments because you feel the moral weight of responsibility for the safety of the entire school community and, given the geographical area we cover, it is hard to be truly confident in the weather conditions. I would also like to thank your young people who have dealt extremely well with the difficulties this week. We have had to limit access to most of the external school site and they have worked with us to make sure that everyone has stayed safe. Whilst it looks like we will not be facing icy conditions at the start of next week, it certainly looks like the weather will impact our ability to use the field during break and lunchtime.
Year 11s begin their mocks next week and this is another crucial step on their qualification journey with us. We have welcomed the infants from some of our local primaries joining us for a karate session and it brings into sharp focus the journey students go on with us during their 5 years here.
Applications for the parent governor position closed today and we will be sharing more information regarding this shortly.
What’s going on in school:
- We had a brilliant boxing and self-defence session yesterday with our Sports Leaders and four of our local primary schools. The coaches from Karate Zone were exceptional and students enjoyed self-defence, kick and punch training and even had a chance to spar! Karate Zone are running free sessions at Hope Valley College and focus on self-defence through a number of different martial art sports. The coaches were inspirational and so supportive with the young people. Our Sports Leaders learnt a lot about how to hold pads and support younger students with their technique. What a brilliant morning!
- Our Interhouse Sports Programme continues – this week was the turn of Y10 students and Mam Tor were the champions. Well done to all who took part.
Y9 English Assessment
Y9 students will have their postponed Run, Rebel assessment on Monday 25 November in their afternoon English lesson. The assessment consists of 10 multiple choice questions, labelling of methods and their effect, and an essay response to a poem from the verse novel.
Nut Allergies
A reminder that nuts should not be brought into school. Please refrain from including items that may contain nuts in packed lunches or snacks. Could we also ask you to be vigilant with cosmetic products that may also contain nuts. We have a number of students in school who suffer from nut allergies. Thank you in advance.
