Headteacher's update 7 March 2025

Dear Parents and Carers

This week in school has been full of activity. We welcomed Year 9 families last night for our options evening and it is always wonderful to hear staff talking about their subjects with passion and enthusiasm. I talked with families about the excitement of opportunity and how empowering this can be. When I have walked around school this week, I have seen so many opportunities for young people to be engaged in learning and as a school we continue to be committed to encouraging every young person to make the most of every opportunity they have in school.

Over the coming week there are lots of things going on including a trip to parliament, an assembly from The Bank Of England and Year 11 Geography field trips.  We could not do many of these activities without your support and we are very grateful for this.

What’s going on in school:

  • Thursday was a busy day in school, so we acknowledged World Book day with a quiz during tutor time and a book giveaway in the library. All students also received a WBD £1 book token to redeem in supermarkets and bookshops. Extra tokens are still available from the library. These can be exchanged for a special £1 book or to get a discount on other bookshop purchases, valid until 23rd March. We will celebrate this occasion properly on Friday 4th April, the last day of term, when students and staff are invited to come to school dressed as their favourite book character or representing a book of their choice. Costumes don’t need to be elaborate. There will be a spot-the-book competition throughout the day and students will be able to vote for the best dressed member of staff. Encourage your young person to think of some costume ideas or send them to the library or inspiration!

  • KS4 and Y7 played in football matches against teams from Buxton. Our KS4 team managed to secure a -2 draw. Y7 played valiantly throughout their game, but unfortunately lost out on penalties. Thank you to the Y9 students who helped referee the Y7 game.
  • Well done to our Y10 and Y11 netball teams who played against Chapel School this week in lovely sunny conditions.
