Headteacher's update 28 March 2025

Dear Parents and Carers
We continually ask our young people to 'Be the Best they Can' and this was very evident on Tuesday evening when I had the joy of watching the GCSE music and drama performance night. It is a moment of absolute pride when I see our young people performing to such a high standard and I know how many hours go into that performance behind the scenes, not only from students, but from staff and yourselves as well.
This week I have also watched our students who achieved their 3-week streak of attendance choose their (modest) rewards for this. We will start again with the attendance streaks so that each young person has another opportunity to 'Turn up and take part'
Final preparations are underway for our Disney trip and I know all of the young people taking part are incredibly excited.
And finally, as we look ahead to the last week of term preparations are under way for our celebration of World Book Day and information is shared below.
What’s going on in school:
- Our GCSE solos night was a fantastic evening, with some wonderful performances from our Y10 and Y11 music and drama students. It was great to see such talent on stage. The evening ended with our Disney Choir, who treated us to a sneak peek at the set they have rehearsed for their performance in Disneyland Paris next week. Thank you to Mrs Machan and Miss Starbuck for putting the evening together and to our PTFA volunteers for providing refreshments.
- We are celebrating World Book Day on school on Friday 4 April. This will be a non-uniform day for staff and students and everyone is welcome to dress up as their favourite book character.
Y11 English Language Paper 2
On Tuesday 1 April (paper 2) and Tuesday 29 April (paper 1), Year 11 classes will have walking-talking mock exams in classrooms. This should allow students to demonstrate how they have acted upon the feedback they received from the mock exam series. Revision materials are available on Teams.
HVAFF 26 April 2025 – Helpers needed!!
We are looking forward to the Hope Valley Adventure Film Festival on 26 April. This event is the biggest PTFA of the year and we really want it to be a success. There are activities, food, films and talks throughout the day and evening. https://hvaff.co.uk/
We need help to run the activities, catering and around the site in the morning afternoon and evening. Please get check your diaries and get in touch if you are available to come and help even if for just part of the event. If you do come down, then you can have access to the rest of the event. Please get in touch ptfahv@hopevalley.chorustrust.org
Lost Property
We have acquired quite a lot of lost property items over the course of the term. Please ask your young person to check the rail in the hall next week for any items they may have lost. Any items not collected by Friday 4 April will be donated to charity.
Job Vacancies
We are recruiting for a cleaner to join our site team. For more information about this vacancy, please see our website: Hope Valley College - Vacancies
Nut Allergies
A reminder that nuts should not be brought into school. Please refrain from including items that may contain nuts in packed lunches or snacks. Could we also ask you to be vigilant with cosmetic products that may also contain nuts. We have a number of students in school who suffer from nut allergies. Thank you in advance.
