Principal's update 15 September 2023
Published on 15/09/23
Dear Parents and Carers
All students have now received a copy of our Student Handbook and should make sure they bring this to school with them every day, as it will be used in lessons. It contains lots of useful information, including our uniform and behaviour policies. We would be grateful if parents and carers could take some time to read through the handbook with your young person. Thank you.
We look forward to seeing parents and carers of students in Years 10 and 11 at our KS4 Information Evening next Thursday 21 September. Over the course of the school year, we hold subject meetings for all year groups. The provisional dates are as follows and more information will be sent to specific year groups nearer the time:
28 September - Y7 Information Evening
5 October – Y6 Open Evening
23 November – Y9 Subject Evening
11 December – Y11 Subject Evening
25 January – Y9 Options Evening
15 February – Y10 Subject Evening
29 April – Y8 Subject Evening
15 May – Y7 Subject Evening
What’s going on in school:
- Students played football against New Mills school on Tuesday this week. Y8 played really well for the first 20 minutes but then conceded some goals throughout the game and unfortunately lost. KS4 played an equally matched opposition and successfully won their game 1-0. Well done to all involved.
- 11 Losehill were the winners of our Interhouse football tournament this week, whilst 11 Mam Tor were victorious in netball! Well done to all involved.
- Students in Y8 and Y9 will get the opportunity to meet author Phil Earle on Thursday next week. Phil is coming into school to talk to students about his work, his books and the joy of reading.
Outdoor Activities
A reminder that the consent forms for Y9 outdoor activities need to be completed by Friday 15 September (today). Groupings and updated activities will be sent out over the next week.
Duke of Edinburgh
The schedule for DofE meetings was included on the email sent to parents of students taking part. On 19 September there will be a meeting for both Y9 and Y10 after school from 3.30pm – 4.30pm.
Y7 Information Evening – Thursday 28 September
Parents and carers of students in Year 7 are invited to our Information Evening on Thursday 28 September. Further details will be sent out in the next week.
Photographs – Y7 & Y11
Photo proofs were handed out to students in Years 7 and 11 this week. The deadline for any orders, which can be made online, is 27 September. A reminder that photographs for all other year groups will be on Monday 2 October.
ClassCharts logins for Y7 parents and carers
Logins for ClassCharts have been sent out to parents and carers of Y7 students this week.
Bus Passes
It is a requirement of bus travel provided by the Local Authority that all students have a bus pass with a photo attached. We would be grateful if you could ensure that all student bus passes have a photo as we will begin to check these next week. This is to ensure that all students are able to travel. We will also remind students that they can only travel for free on the named bus that corresponds to their pass. If they wish to travel on a different bus they will be required to pay a fare, and this is especially true of the public buses that also provide us with transport. We would be grateful if you could ensure that students either have the correct bus pass or money.
Students who travel on an Andrews bus can collect their bus passes from reception.
School Cloud app
We are no longer using the School Cloud app, as we have now moved to a new Management Information System.
Spare uniform
Thank you for your generous donations of old school uniform. Our cupboard is now full to bursting, so we cannot currently take any more donations. We will update you when we have more space. Thank you.
