Dear Parents and Carers
We are very much looking forward to welcoming audiences to school next week for our production of We Will Rock You! Students have been working incredibly hard, with rehearsals taking place most days this week. Tickets are still available for each evening if you have not yet bought yours: https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/whats-on/derbyshire/hope-valley-college/we-will-rock-you-school-edition/e-raabma
What’s going on in school:
- This year we will celebrate World Book Day and Red Nose Day all in one go on Friday 15 March. This will be a non-uniform day for everyone. Any students wishing to dress up as a character from a book for World Book Day are welcome to do so, but there is no obligation if students would prefer to come in their own clothes. Some of our staff plan to dress up as characters and there will be various book related activities taking place in school. There is a suggested voluntary donation of £1, with all monies raised going to Comic Relief. Donations can be made either via Parent Pay, or our Student Council will visit tutor rooms to collect cash donations. Red noses will also be available to buy from reception at a cost of £2 each - please bring cash. Thank you in advance for your support.
- Students in Y8 will take part in our Poetry by Heart competition next Friday, performing their chosen poems before an audience.
- Mrs Machan has been very impressed with her Y10 GCSE music students this week, who have been busy practising for their mock solo performance exam.
- Last weekend, HVC hosted the Glorious Gravel cycling event, which took riders all over the Peak District. Thank you to our site team who supervised this event. If you are interested in an external letting at HVC, please contact enquiries@hopevalley.chorustrust.org
Year 9 Options
We now have the majority of option choices for Year 9 and will start to build the options blocks next week. We will talk to students and parents if we need to use reserve choices and will confirm option subjects after Easter.
CRY Screening
All slots are now fully booked for the CRY screening taking place on Thursday 7 March. If you have booked a place for your young person, please ensure you have completed and returned the consent form. Without a completed consent form, your young person will not be able to take part in the screening.
Attitude to Learning
This week students have been given a paper copy of their Attitude to Learning report (ATL). This report is also available on the ‘Arbor Parent’ app and has also been emailed to students and parents. We have sent out details about how to log into the app previously, please contact the school if you require any further support. Information about ATL can be found on our website here: Attitude to Learning - Hope Valley College (hopevalley-chorustrust.org)
