Principal's update 14 June 2024

Published on 18/06/24

Dear Parents and Carers

This week we said bon voyage to our MFL trip who travelled to Paris and spent 3 days there. They had a fantastic time and their behaviour was amazing! They visited some of Paris' most famous landmarks, took a cruise along the river Seine, and had a fantastic time at Parc Asterix. Enormous thanks to Miss Bradley, Ms Oldfield, Ms Astbury and Mr Streets who travelled with the group.

On Monday 17 June, we are welcoming a photographer to school, who will be taking photos of all aspects of our school, so that we can more accurately show life at HVC on our website and in our communications. The resulting photos may be used in a number of locations including: the HVC and Chorus Education Trust websites; on our social media and other online channels; in the media (for example local newspapers); and in displays around the school and Chorus Trust.

The photographer will visit lessons throughout the school day and will be taking photos of students. We will only use images of young people for whom we have received image consent. Thank you to all those who have responded to our request for image consent. With this in mind, can we ask you to ensure that your young person is in correct, smart and clean school uniform on Monday. If they have a sweatshirt, rather than a hoody, then they should wear this. If they have a PE lesson on this day, please ensure that they bring the correct PE kit with them. Ideally all students should have polo shirts and jumpers with the up-to-date logo on them, but we appreciate that some items with the old logo are still in circulation. Thank you in advance for your support in helping us refresh our photography.

Attendance

As you will know, attendance continues to be a high priority for us.  All of our data shows us that the more students are in school, the more opportunities they have and the better a student's attainment. The government has updated their guidance in a number of areas, and we are in the process of understanding this and will be sharing it with you shortly. We are also in the process of identifying students who are persistent absentees (where attendance is 90% or below) so that we can put support in place in advance of the next academic year.  We would ask that attendance continues to be prioritised over the remainder of the summer term. Thank you.

What’s going on in school:

  • Y7 students have been tasked with coming up with a design for this year’s school well dressing. The theme this year if nursery rhymes and we have received some fantastic creative designs.

  • Year 8 took part in our Interhouse rounders competition yesterday. Mam Tor were the winners, closely followed by Kinder. Well done to all who took part.
  • Well done to Zach in Y7 who performed a fantastic DJ set at the Sheffield Food Festival in the Peace Gardens.

  • Congratulations to Max in Y10 who recently competed in the 2024 BMX European Racing Championships in Verona, Italy.

Y11 ParentPay accounts

Could we ask all Y11 parents and carers to ensure that any school meal account debts are cleared before students’ last day in school. Please also remember to return any library books. Thank you.

Y10 mock exams

The Y10 mock exams begin next week with the French and Spanish speaking mocks and the Music performance.  Students will be given their individual time slot for these exams by their teacher.  The mock exam timetable can be accessed using the following link Exams - Hope Valley College (hopevalley-chorustrust.org).  Students will be handed their statement of entry next week which will have details of which exam room they will be in and their seat number.  If required, exam pencil cases can be purchased via ParentPay and collected from Reception.
